Royal Palm Beach man flees police, tries to hide in home with 12-year-old

LAKE WORTH - Pursued by sheriff's deputies, a 20-year-old Royal Palm Beach man pushed his way into a woman's home and begged her to hide him.
A deputy, responding to a report of shots fired in the 4400 block of Gulf Stream Road Thursday afternoon, came across Joseph Lees. Lees' Chevy Caprice matched the description of a car linked to the shooting, according to an arrest report, so the deputy stopped Lees.

Lees stepped out of the car and nervously tried to cover a bulge in his pocket, the report says, so the deputy tried to grab Lees' arm. Lees pushed the deputy down and then ran away, throwing three small bags from his pocket along the way, according to the report.
Two deputies followed Lees and caught up with him on Adcock Lane. Recovering the bags, deputies learned one contained marijuana and two contained oxycodone.
Another deputy alerted them that, somewhere along the way, Lees had pushed his way into a woman's home, the report says.
She told investigators that Lees said, "Please, please hide me. The cops are looking for me." The woman, who asked not to be named, had her 12-year-old son inside the house and pushed the stranger out.
Deputies arrested Lees on charges of burglary, drug possession, battery on an officer, resisting with violence and driving on a suspended license.
