Two arrested in Hampton motel drug bust

Police make drug bust at beach hotel

HAMPTON -- Two local men that were staying in the Emerald Isle Motel are facing criminal charges for allegedly distributing OxyContin throughout the Seacoast.

Phillip Widener, 52, and Stephen J. Marshall, 42, were both arrested on Nov. 4 on one count each of sale of a controlled narcotic drug. The arrests come after a 12-month investigation that was conducted by the New Hampshire Attorney General's Drug Task Force, and the Seabrook and Hampton Police departments.

Hampton Police Lt. Dan Gidley said he could not comment on specific details of the case because it's still under investigation and more arrests are pending.

Both men were arrested on a warrant on Nov. 4, at the Winnacunnet Road motel.

Authorities searched both of their motel rooms and two vehicles, and allegedly found significant quantities of OxyContin, a powerful prescription drug that's used medically for pain management.

Gidley said the investigation revealed that Marshall and Widener had been picking up quantities of OxyContin in the cities of Manchester, NH, and Lawrence, Mass., several times a week this past year with the purpose of distributing the pills throughout the Seacoast.

Widener was arraigned in the Hampton District Court on Nov. 5, and remains in custody on $5,000 cash bail.

Marshall was released on $2,000 personal recognizance bail pending his arraignment which is scheduled for Dec. 14.
