A 33-YEAR-old Victorian man faces up to 25 years in jail after cocaine was found hidden inside two skateboards at Sydney Airport. The man was stopped by Customs officers yesterday after arriving on a flight from Auckland, Customs and Australian Federal Police (AFP) said in a joint statement.
Customs officers became suspicious that drugs were hidden inside two skateboard decks and an X-ray revealed an image consistent with a possible drug concealment.
The decks were opened, allegedly revealing three packages containing 600 grams of white powder.
Preliminary tests indicated the presence of cocaine, Customs and AFP said.
The powder would be forensically tested to confirm the substance and determine its purity and weight, they said.
The man was charged with attempting to import a marketable quantity of a border-controlled drug, which carries a maximum penalty of 25 years imprisonment and/or a $550,000 fine.
He appeared in Sydney Central Local Court today and was remanded in custody to reappear in the same court on January 15 next year.
