A declassified file from a Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) into Steve Jobs in 1991 has detailed use of LSD and his intense management style.
Jobs was investigated as part of a background check done for a presidential appointment in 1991, and for a bomb threat against him in 1985.
Much of the interviewing took place when Jobs was being considered by President George H. W. Bush's administration for a position on the president's Export Council.
A number of friends, neighbours and colleagues were interviewed to see whether there was anything in Jobs' background that could leave him open to blackmail.
Jobs' use of LSD during his schooldays - which was well-known, and he had himself admitted - was noted by one interviewee.
Others discussed his intense managerial style, saying that he couldn't be trusted, and that he was able to create a reality-distortion field.
"Several individuals questioned Mr Jobs' honesty stating that Mr Jobs will twist the truth and distort reality in order to achieve his goals," the report noted.
The FBI wrote that one person "added that although the Appointee [Jobs] is basically an honest and trustworthy person, he is a very complex individual and his moral character is suspect".
Despite these views, all the people interviewed about Jobs recommended him for the role, with the Export Council, which he subsequently received.
The report also revealed Jobs also had a Top Secret government clearance while working at Pixar.
